Love Wavertree loves art and artists. We are committed to fostering creativity and artistic talent across L15, and to support artists to work with and from within our local community.
We are absolutely delighted to introduce Ali Harwood as our first Artist in Residence, as nominated by our resident-led ‘Love Wavertree Love Arts’ group. Ali is an artist, poet, writer, teacher and long-term Wavertree resident who works from his studio in Bishopgate Street, L15.
Ali’s work is full of colour and light, and his first workshop for Love Wavertree brought both of those to the ReLoved hub, on what was a pretty rainy day outside! Celebrating the City of Liverpool’s 813th birthday, Ali brought ‘colouring fun for everyone’ with his ‘Liver Birds’ workshop. It was great to see community members of all ages with big smiles and joining in the fun. Perhaps most enthusiastic of all was our long-term shop volunteer Queen Jean – who even went off to SuperSave to buy her own felt-tip pens!
Thanks so much to Ali for bringing the ‘Liver Birds’ and their glorious colour to the hub. The day also included making drawings of ‘dream trees’ – imagining a tree, what’s above and what’s below. We look forward to working with Ali and our community over the coming months in bringing some of these trees and dreams to life.
Ali’s ‘Liver Birds’ book is available to buy online here, and at the ReLoved shop.
